New York Jets win over the Miami Dolphins was good for the organization
Despite the status of the roster, particularly the quarterback position, the New York Jets needed the win over the Miami Dolphins.
The New York Jets aren’t tanking the 2017 season after all. Not only that, they performed like a very good football team against the Miami Dolphins, pitching a shutout until the final play of the game. The defense was stout and the offense put up enough points to win the game going away. The Jets are 1-2, only one game behind the New England Patriots. This is good, right?
It’s also a rebuilding year. The Jets don’t believe they have a future quarterback on their roster. This much is clear. They also opened a lot of cap space to be able to make moves for 2018. Fans are also dreaming of Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen wearing the green and white in 2018 and beyond. There is the faction of fans, some of them wearing the shirt from our friends at Turn on the Jets, that are hoping the Jets will tank the season for the number one pick.
But lo and behold the Jets come up with a victory. A strong victory at that. Was this good for the franchise? The answer is an absolute yes. Here is why.

First of all, no matter the structure of the roster, no football players are ever going to tank. It’s not going to happen. They are playing for jobs, whether in New York or somewhere around the league. These players don’t want to put themselves on tape lacking in effort. They are going to compete every week.
Don’t forget the fact that they increase the chance of getting injured if they lighten up.
The general manager might not put the roster in a position to succeed but the players will always try to succeed.
Confidence is why a win is important. You might wonder why they need confidence in a year like this. I’ll tell you. Like it or not, Jets fans, this is the core of the team. Going forward you are looking at many players that will be here for a while. Even if it is just a couple of wins this year, isn’t it better for them to have SOME confidence moving ahead? A win does that. This core can see they are headed in the right direction.

Remember, it’s not just getting the first pick that gets the Jets that player. Imagine if Sam Darnold decides to pull an Eli Manning and declare he won’t play for the Jets. They make a trade but not for a quarterback, then what? What if Darnold and Rosen both decide to stay in school because they don’t want to play here? It’s a possibility.
Winning and showing some talent makes coming to the organization more appealing. Whether we are talking about college players or free agents, they need to want to come. Think Tony Romo gave serious consideration to coming here? I doubt it. But if were a team on the rise he might have thought about it more seriously. The Jets will have a lot of money to play with next year. Players have to want it. Winning games makes them more worthy of interest. Good things all around with this victory.
