After signing with the New York Knicks, Michael Beasley is taking full advantage of the spotlight of the Big Apple. This could be an entertaining season with Beasley making headlines on and off the court.

The New York Knicks signed Michael Beasley in early August to a one-year deal worth just over $2 million. Since then, Beasley has made headlines by saying some outrageous and perhaps delusional things. I mean, this guy just seems to think differently than most.

Last week, Michael Beasley told ESPN’s Ian Begley that the Knicks would be a playoff team in 2017-18 and that he could put up 25 points per game.

From Beasley himself, via ESPN:

"“If Tim Hardaway Jr., Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and myself (are on the roster) – those are four guys that can score 25 points per game….I think we’ve got a position to be not only a playoff team but a five, six seed team if we do it right.”"

Perhaps I could see, in an Eastern Conference that was depleted of talent this offseason, the Knicks sneaking into the playoffs. But as the fifth seed?? You’re out of your mind!

The Knicks are nowhere near as talented as the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, or Washington Wizards. They’re also likely to finish behind the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, and potentially the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets.

Beasley did make these comments when New York still had Carmelo Anthony. Melo has since been traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, I have a feeling that the loss of Carmelo will not diminish Beasley’s confidence.

More from New York Knicks

The man thinks he’s going to average 25 points per game! How much more confident can you get?

Michael Beasley’s career-high is 19.2 ppg back when he started 73 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2010-11. However, he has not started more than 20 games since.

Beasley averaged 32.3 minutes per game in 2010-11 but has not averaged more than 21 minutes per game in any of the past five seasons.

He should get plenty of minutes with the Knicks but 25 points per game seem like a bit of a stretch.

Beasley also had Tim Hardaway Jr. and Kristaps Porzingis putting up 25 a night. Hardaway Jr.’s career-high is 14.5 ppg and Porzingis’ best is 18.1. Both players’ career-highs were last year, so perhaps they will continue to improve, but 25 points per game is an unrealistic jump.

Maybe Michael Beasley thought the Knicks would make the playoffs because he was using only 10% of his brain. Or can he use 11%?

On SNY’s Timeout with Taylor Rooks, Beasley went on a rant about humans only being able to use 10% of their brains.

Beasley has a theory that whoever discovered that humans can only access 10% of their brains must have been able to access at least 11%. Otherwise, that person would not be able to know that the rest of society can use just 10%.

I kind of understand that he’s saying. If we can only use 10% of our brains, how do we know what the other 90% does? How do we know we’re not using our entire brain now?

In Beasley’s mind, whoever found out that there’s more to the brain than what humans already use must know something no one else knows, therefore accessing the eleventh percent.

I don’t know if he’s right. I don’t know if he’s wrong. What I do know is that Michael Beasley is entertaining.

Now playing in New York City, Beasley will have plenty of cameras on him and microphones in front of him for what should be an interesting season.

We’ll have to keep all 10% of our brains ready to consume whatever theory Michael Beasley comes up with next.
