Odell Beckham Jr. Hopeful He Will Play Sunday Night Against Cowboys
The New York Giants will open the regular season on the road against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. As of right now, it is still unclear whether or not their star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will be on the field.
The way things are looking, the New York Giants are going to have to find a way to beat the Dallas Cowboys without Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham missed the Giants practice on Wednesday. He has not practiced all week due to a left ankle injury that he suffered in a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns a few weeks ago. According to Paul Schwartz of The New York Post, Beckham participated in team warmups, but then went to the sidelines.
It seems as though it is very unlikely that Beckham will be able to play on Sunday. He was not necessarily confident about the prospect of taking the field against the Cowboys when talking to reporters on Wednesday afternoon. As reported by Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, Beckham sounded uncertain about his chances of playing this week.

The Giants beat the Cowboys in both of their meetings last season and Beckham was a big part of the offense in each of the victories. During last year’s season opener in Dallas, Odell caught four passes for 73 yards. He then had four catches for 94 yards and a touchdown in the Giants Week 14 contest against the Cowboys in the Meadowlands.
If Beckham is unable to play, then Brandon Marshall will probably see his role in the offense expand. The 33-year-old veteran will be playing his first game as a member of the New York Giants on Sunday. He should be seeing plenty of targets from quarterback Eli Manning.

Thursday’s practice should give us a strong indication of what Odell Beckham Jr.’s status is for Sunday. If he does not practice, then chances are Beckham will miss the game. It will all depend on whether or not he is medically cleared to play. As of right now, that seems unlikely.
