Could the New York Jets be considering a reunion with a former wide receiver?

You remember this guy in the featured picture, don’t you New York Jets fans? Some of us called him “Kerley fries”. Of course we are talking about former wide receiver and punt returner, Jeremy Kerley. He was drafted by the Jets in 2001 and spent the first five years of his career in New York before playing with the 49ers last season.

Could there be a reunion on the horizon? As Manish Mehta of the Daily News tweeted, and Rich Cimini of ESPN echoed, Kerley is New Jersey for a visit to the facility. There was no word on whether or not he was going to work out, take a physical, …etc. After the 2015 season, he had fallen out of favor with Todd Bowles and the coaching staff which led to his departure.

It is an interesting choice because under this head coach, Kerley’s role diminished until it was gone. He literally was on the field for punt returns and that was it. He left to points outside the New York area and that was that.

However, being only 28 years old, he wouldn’t defeat the rebuilding purpose. But, his previous performance with the Jets makes him a worthy candidate to return. After all he did put up 56 receptions and 827 yards in 2012. Who was the quarterback then? That’s right, the great Mark Sanchez.

Kerley would bring experience to a group that is severely lacking in that trait. If the Jets can bring him in, it would be a smart move.
