The New York Jets have dealt Sheldon  Richardson to the Seattle Seahawks. Here are the immediate reactions.

The New York Jets have been looking to move Sheldon Richardson for quite a while. Now that Muhammad Wilkerson has received his big contract, there really was no way for the team to pay the both of them. The trade has finally happened, per Adam Schefter:

And so ends the Richardson era in New York. It really is a shame that it had to end as he is a supremely talented player. It wasn’t just the money that ending things, though, as any Jets fan knows. He had troubles off of the field, and with his mouth, that the team felt they could not deal with any longer. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, coach Todd Bowles was finished when Richardson went into the Brandon Marshall issue again during this offseason.

Richardson’s best season came in 2014 when he recorded eight sacks on the way to a Pro Bowl appearance. Between the incident with the car and the gun, the suspension issues, and the locker room conflicts, the team couldn’t keep him around any longer.

In return, the Jets get a receiver with some experience in Jermaine Kearse. He has been in the league for five seasons yet still fits the youth movement at only 27 years old.

His best output came in 2015 when he posted 49 receptions for 685 yards and five touchdowns. He hasn’t put up the numbers of a number one, but he still provides a young, inexperienced group of receivers some valuable experience to draw from.

They also received a second round pick which gives them more pieces when the rebuild moves forward in 2018.
