New York Jets choose a kicker and make other moves to bring roster to 76.

The New York Jets and the rest of the NFL are under the gun. The teams have to bring their respective rosters from 90 players down to 53 by Saturday at 4 PM EDT. Gone is the previous cut going from 90 to 75 as they had in the past. It’s all in one shot now, and the teams are starting to put in their moves in advance of the deadline.

The Jets made several moves, though the only one of note is at the kicker position. The competition has ended and former Cardinal Chandler Catanzaro has earned the job over Ross Martin. Both Catanzaro and Martin were perfect from inside 40 yards, and each had a miss in their only attempt from 50+. Martin has been in this position before, falling to Nick Folk last season. He falls short once again.

Hennessey was Martin’s long snapper in college and his wedding party as well. They decided to go with the veteran at kicker, though at the time of this post, Hennessey is still on the roster.

The only other long time veteran is Spencer Paysinger, given his outright release.
