New York Jets 2018 NFL Draft Prospects: Offensive Linemen
By TJ Wengert
C Mason Cole, Michigan
Lastly, we have the lone center, Mason Cole! The Michigan Wolverine received a lot of attention going into the 2017 Draft, but Cole decided to stay at school for one more year.
Cole would’ve been the best center in the 2017 class, as he was the best pass and run blocker with the highest potential. One more year of getting even better at Michigan should make him by far the best center in this year’s draft class.
Cole has been a starter since he was a true freshman, totaling 38 consecutive starts (first 25 at left tackle, last 13 at center). His positional versatility is an added bonus.
Cole has great footwork, strength, and football smarts, making him the best center prospect since Travis Frederick in the 2013 Draft.
Center is another tricky position to try to figure out when they will be drafted. Often, it’s in the early second round and if Cole is there when the New York Jets are making their second round pick, it should be an easy decision to make.
That’s it for today’s article on the offensive linemen the New York Jets should be scouting. Let me know your thoughts on these prospects and anyone else I might have forgotten. Also, be sure to come back tomorrow for the next installment of our series, as we will look at the defensive linemen in the 2018 draft class.
