The 2017 NFL season hasn’t started yet, but most New York Jets fans are ready for 2018 and beyond. With the team in a “rebuild” of sorts, we take a look at the 2018 NFL Draft prospects who Jets fans should be watching this college football season.

As we pick up in our series on players the New York Jets should be scouting in the 2018 NFL Draft, today we get to the tight ends!

Outside of the quarterback position, tight end might be the biggest need on the team. Last season, the Jets tight ends were Austin Seferian-Jenkins for seven games and Brandon Bostick. They combined for 18 catches for 173 yards, but with no touchdowns.

Seferian-Jenkins has the size and has shown glimpses in his career of being a good tight end. Still only 24, Seferian-Jenkins has time to polish his game and become that productive tight end.

The Jets also drafted Jordan Leggett in the fifth round of this year’s draft. Leggett stands at six-foot-five and weighs 258 pounds. Last season, on the National Champion Clemson Tigers, Leggett had 46 receptions for 736 yards and seven touchdowns.

So New York has players who could develop into promising starters, which for a team in a rebuild, just add it to the waiting list. This year could also prove that the Jets need to ditch Seferian-Jenkins, and show Leggett isn’t a number one tight end.

If that ends up being the case, then the New York Jets have some options in the 2018 draft class, and today we examine those options.
