New York Jets 2018 NFL Draft Prospects: Offensive Linemen
By TJ Wengert
OG Martez Ivey, Florida
Next up is another offensive guard, Martez Ivey! Out of the University of Florida, Ivey fits the bill as another big guard as he is six-foot-five and weighs 302 pounds.
Depending on where you look, Ivey is usually ranked the third or fourth best guard in the draft class. But by the time the 2018 Draft rolls around, Ivey’s play will make him the number two guard, behind only Quenton Nelson.
His talent has gotten him plenty of recognition. In 2015, Ivey was named to the SEC Coaches’ All-Freshman team and last season was named Second-Team All-SEC.

The best tools at Ivey’s disposal are his strength and size. Just looking at him and you would think he could bench press a car. His strength makes him a force at the line of scrimmage, creating huge running lanes and plenty of pancakes. In the passing game, his strength allows him to not get bullied around by the big defensive linemen the SEC is famous for.
But with his strengths (pun totally intended), comes his weakness; his lack of mobility and athleticism. When it comes to getting up field for further blocking, screen plays, or moving with a scrambling quarterback, Ivey struggles.
Still only going into his junior year, Ivey is due for a big step forward. If that step forward is in his mobility and athleticism, then Ivey will definitely be the second guard in the class.
Guard is a tough position to try to mock where the players will go but if Ivey stays at third or fourth best in the class, then he’s a late second to third round guy. If he makes his progression, however, then he could be a late first rounder (where the Jets could trade in for another first round pick and take Ivey) or fall to the early second (and be taken with the New York Jets second round pick).
