OT Mike McGlinchey, Notre Dame

First up, Mike McGlinchey! He’s going into his senior season at Notre Dame (Go Irish!!), a university that breeds top-ten pick quality offensive linemen (Ronnie Stanley, Zach Martin, John Sullivan, etc).

McGlinchey spent his freshman and sophomore years playing right tackle, but last season was shifted to left tackle to take over after Ronnie Stanley was drafted. Having experience at both tackles positions puts him in play on draft night for basically any team.

He has great size for the position as he stands at six-foot-eight and weighs 312 pounds. When you combine his size and technique, you get a brick wall in the passing game.

Where McGlinchey could improve is in the running game. He has a bad habit of getting caught with too much of his weight leaning forward, and he isn’t a great open field blocker due to a lack of superior athleticism (good athlete, just not great).

With that said, McGlinchey is still a solid run blocker because of his strength and ability to create the hole for runners to forge through. He just needs to learn to not get caught leaning forward.

McGlinchey also has the leadership traits you want from a franchise left tackle and he will try to lead the Fighting Irish to a better season (won’t be hard considering the 4-8 record last year).

Assuming the rising senior continues to take steps forwards, grows in the running game, and gets a little more athletic, be prepared to hear his name called in the top 16 picks of the draft, and maybe even to the New York Jets.
