New York Jets 2018 NFL Draft Prospects: Tight Ends
By TJ Wengert
Mike Gesicki, Penn State
Lastly for today, the athletic freak, Mike Gesicki! The Nittany Lion is the most athletic tight end in the class.
Gesicki played both offense and defense in high school. Not to mention that along with football, Gesicki played basketball and volleyball.
Not only did Gesicki play three sports, he dominated in three sports. In volleyball, he was named the Star Ledger’s Boys Volleyball State Player of the Year in 2014. In basketball, well his highlights will tell you all you need to know (seriously, they’re pretty insane). Lastly, in football, at defensive end, he was a four-star recruit on 24 Sports and a three-star recruit on ESPN. And well, we know how good he is at tight end.

Being a three-sport athlete and two-way football star is all apart of how freakishly athletic Gesicki is. Because of that athleticism, when you see Gesicki play, it looks a lot like Jimmy Graham.
That’s high praise, but Gesicki’s game lives up to it. Last season, Gesicki was named to the All-Big Ten second-team by conference media as he had 48 catches for 679 yards and five touchdowns.
The first two tight ends we mentioned are great players, and will probably get drafted before Gesicki. All that means, however, is that a team is going to be coming away with a steal in the mid to late second round. Certainly, all Jets fans should hope that it’s New York coming away with the steal.
That’s all for today’s article. Let me know what you think of these three prospects or anyone I forgot. Also, be sure to come back for tomorrow’s article on the offensive line prospects the New York Jets should be targeting.
