New York Giants 2017 Roster Preview: Linebackers
By Sean Dyer
OLB Jonathan Casillas
After six years of being primarily a special teamer for the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England Patriots, Jonathan Casillas has spent the last two years as one of the Giants best tacklers.
Casillas started seven games for Big Blue in 2015 and registered 88 total tackles, 67 of which were solo. Casillas also recorded two sacks and an interception.
Last season, Casillas was named the Giants defensive captain. He would eventually lead by example, finishing second on the team with 96 total tackles in 15 starts. 61 of Casillas’ tackles were solo and he had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
I expect more of the same from Casillas in 2017. We will see him running all over the field, making tackles sideline to sideline. Casillas is a great leader in the Giants locker room and will be key in New York staying at the top of NFL defense rankings.
