New York Jets 2017 Roster Preview: Quarterbacks
By Sean Dyer
Christian Hackenberg
The New York Jets took Christian Hackenberg in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, a pick that not many people saw coming.
Hackenberg was a 5-star recruit out of high school and when the No. 2 QB recruit in the country chose Penn State, many thought he would be in contention for the first overall pick in the NFL Draft when then-Head Coach Bill O’Brien was done with him.
Hackenberg started every game over his three-year Penn State career but inconsistencies and questions about his decision-making caused him to drop to the second round.

The Jets drafted the Penn State product with hopes that they could tap into the potential that “Hack” showed as a high schooler.
After Hackenberg saw zero game action his rookie season, Gang Green is hoping he can show enough this offseason to get on the field in 2017.
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old isn’t off to a great start. Hackenberg was reportedly kicked out of Jets practice earlier in the week for not breaking the huddle correctly. If he can’t do that correctly, what can he do?
It’s likely just a lack of concentration but that is a pretty big deal when talking about the quarterback position. Especially when there’s hope that you’re the QB of the future.
Hackenberg definitely has more upside than Bryce Petty, but Josh McCown will likely beat out both youngsters for the starting job.
However, when the New York Jets season starts going south, which could happen very quickly, it will likely be Christian Hackenberg who replaces McCown so that the Jets brass and their fans can see what they have in their 2016 second round pick.
