Addison Reed Dealt To The Red Sox For Prospects
The New York Mets and GM Sandy Alderson beat out the trade deadline by finalizing a last day deal to send closer Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox.
The Mets recently acquired closer AJ Ramos. The Ramos deal was likely made knowing that Reed had possible suitors. It wouldn’t have made sense otherwise.
The deal was also likely made due to Reed being a pending free agent and Ramos being under team contract through 2018.
In return for the righty Reed, the Mets received three top 30 prospects from the Red Sox.Stephen Nogosek, Jamie Callahan, and Gerson Bautisita. All three pitchers are 22 years of age. The Mets make their intention for this deadline obvious.

Rebuild the pitching farm system they nearly destroyed by being buyers the last few seasons. Along with the previous Lucas Duda trade, the Mets have now gained a new closer, and 4 future bullpen pitchers. The trade fell at a rather opportune time. Reed is thriving and making himself valuable in a spot he was not even supposed to have. Jeurys Familia was the closer in the beginning of the year. A major arterial surgery is what put him on the shelf.
Reed leaving is not going to effect the Mazins’ silly season. Familia will supposedly pitch before the end of the season and Ramos already has began taking big league reps with his new team. Reed has earned himself the potential to get a big contract and potentially play for a winning team in Boston. Reed will be used as a set up man for Sox closer Craig Kimbrel. The Mets have their fair share of pitching talent moving to their farm system.

Finally, Reed and the Mets part ways. In what is a very fair trade.
