New York Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro is set to return tonight against the Red Sox. Castro’s return goes far beyond the series in Bean Town this week.

New York Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro is finally ready to return after hitting the shelf before the All-Star Break.

Before his injury, Castro was without a doubt one of the most productive players in the Yankees lineup. He’s actually having his best year statistically, but his return goes far beyond the numbers.

More from Empire Writes Back

Castro had played every game for the Bronx Bombers until his injury put a halt to his season. One of the most vocal leaders on the New York Yankees, Castro is set to guide this team deep into 2017.

One thing Castro constantly brought to the table throughout the first half was his excitement. Whether it was for himself, or for other players, Castro always had a way to fire things up.

He also was just fun to watch.

Castro now reenters the season with the New York Yankees in the thick of a division race. The eight year veteran is going to have to pick up where he left off if the Yanks want a chance to win the AL East.

Prior to his injury, Castro had played in every single game for the New York Yankees. He is a work horse, and he’s exactly what the team needs now. They need someone who is going to grind day in and day out.

The one positive of Castro’s injury was the call-up of Tyler Wade. Wade hasn’t dazzled, but he is going to be a bigtime player for the Bombers down the stretch.

Now more than ever the Yankees will rely on Starlin Castro, and here’s to hoping he starts producing right away.
