Bad Judgement: New York Yankees, Aaron Judge, and the Homerun Derby
New York Yankees phenom Aaron Judge is in the lineup for the Homerun Derby. The rookie should think twice before he enters the show.
New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge is set to be in the lineup for this year’s Homerun Derby, and that is a bad decision.
The rookie is having a standout year, and at this rate, he could put his name on a few trophies by year’s end. However, there now lies a rub with this derby decision.
Before I continue, let me be clear about my opinion about the homerun derby.
I love the new format of it, and the excitement, but I hate what it does to players’ swings. It’s old fashioned to think it, but it completely tears the fundamentals out of a player’s game.
Take a look at Judge.
The man is larger than life, and not once has he let it get to his head.
This decision almost seems like Judge’s one moment of weakness as a superstar. It will be great image wise not only for him, but the New York Yankees, and the MLB as a whole.
The big dilemma I am having is that I, like many other fans should be, am worried about Judge’s swing afterward.
I’m a traditionalist when it comes to situations like this. I always go back to the Bobby Abreu incident of 2005, and I get a bad feeling.

I don’t want the same to happen to Judge, and I think fans have reason to worry as well.
Judge is more of a pure athlete than Abreu, and that’s a big positive. He has also handled the spotlight really well for a 25-year-old.
I, like many other fans, will root hard for Judge at the derby. I will just be very nervous about what’s to come after the break for the kid from Cali.
