American League Rookie of the Year and MVP frontrunner Aaron Judge was voted by the fans as an All-Star starter. Four of his teammates were selected as reserves. The 2017 MLB All-Star Game will be played on July 11th.

In what is probably the least shocking development from the 2017 All-Star Selection Show, Yankees rookie phenom Aaron Judge was voted by the fans as a starting outfielder.

Aaron Judge all but has the AL Rookie of the Year award locked up and he is the current frontrunner to win AL MVP.

Judge is hitting .327/.448/.687 with an MLB-leading 27 home runs and 62 RBI.

The 6’7″ slugger leads the American League in home runs, RBI, runs, total bases, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, and walks. He is also second in the AL in batting average.

An All-Star starting spot was expected, but Judge also led all American League players with over 3.4 million fan votes.

Judge could potentially also participate in the Home Run Derby, although he hasn’t accepted the invitation yet.

The rookie has continued to excel, despite the Yankees recent struggles.

Judge should be busy in Miami between the All-Star Game, the Home Run Derby (potentially), and being swarmed by fans as he becomes the face of baseball.

Four Yankees selected as AL reserves

Catcher Gary Sánchez was selected as Salvador Pérez’s backup.

Sánchez is hitting .289/.378/.526 with 13 HR and 40 RBI.

The Yankees’ young backstop missed time with a biceps injury but has been one of the best offensive catchers in baseball since his return.

Second baseman Starlin Castro was also selected as an American League reserve.

Beat out in the fan vote by José Altuve, Castro joins Jonathan Schoop as backup second basemen.

Castro is hitting .313/.348/.486 with 12 HR and 45 RBI. His 92 hits are tied for ninth most in the AL, despite missing the past week with a hamstring strain.

Starting pitcher Luis Severino made the AL roster as well.

Severino has been the Yankees’ ace this year, stepping up as Masahiro Tanaka has struggled.

Sevy is just 5-4 but has had six leads blown by the Yankees’ bullpen.

The right-hander has an ERA of 3.52 and WHIP of 1.11. He has struck out 114 batters in 99.2 innings.

The final Yankee All-Star reserve is setup man Dellin Betances.

Betances’ recent struggles have caused his ERA, which was 0.40 just a few appearances ago, to increase to 3.12.

However, he was six of eight in save chances while he was filling in for the injured Aroldis Chapman as the Yankees’ closer. Betances also has 48 strikeouts in 26 innings.

Final Player Vote

Shortstop Didi Gregorius is among the five players up for the American League Final Vote.

Fans have until July 6th at 4:00 pm ET to vote one of the five candidates into the All-Star Game as the final player on the AL roster.

Didi is hitting .310/.333/.489 with 10 HR and 36 RBI.

Gregorius missed the first month of the season with a shoulder injury but has been one of the Yankees’ best hitters since.

Make sure all you Yankee fans go out and vote for Didi! #SIRDIDI4SURE

Final Thoughts

Despite their recent struggles, the New York Yankees have been one of the best teams in baseball for the first half of the season.

In turn, they have five players that have been selected to the All-Star Game, with the potential for a sixth.
