New York Giants: Victor Cruz burns bridges, signs with Bears
Former New York Giants wide-receiver Victor Cruz signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Cruz was cut early in the off-season alongside running back Rashad Jennings.
Before signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, former New York Giants wideout Victor Cruz appeared on 105.1 FM’s The Breakfast Club. The veteran had something to say about the process of being cut by Big Blue.
"“I felt it all year long,” Cruz said. “Halfway through the year I’m ballin’, the other half I’m not getting the ball. And you’re just like, ‘What’s going on?’ It was like, “Okay, I see what’s happening. They don’t want me here anymore.’ A lot of people probably don’t know this. Let’s say I played well, was a 1,000-yard receiver last year, it would have been more difficult from a fan perspective to cut me.”"
Last year, on 72 targets, Cruz had only 39 receptions, for 586 yards, and only one touchdown. The last time Cruz played at least 15 games was 2012.
In that season, Cruz was one of the top wide receivers in the league. He amassed 143 targets, for 86 receptions, 1,092 yards, and 10 touchdowns. However, Cruz didn’t get many targets this season. It was in due part to the production of star wide-receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and rookie Sterling Shepard.
With that being said you could make a case that what Cruz said was warranted. New York Giants fans had high hopes for the former standout wide-receiver come this season.
Coming into the 2016 season Giants fans had been waiting for Cruz to come back for a couple of seasons, and they were hoping he could get back to where he left off.

The Bears are coming off a season in which they went 3-13 and then cut their quarterback. Chicago then went on to sign a former backup, Mike Glennon, to a 3 year $45.3 million deal.
Following the signing of Glennon the Bears decided to trade up one pick in order to grab UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky with the 2nd overall pick in the draft. Cruz will be joining wide-receivers Kevin White and Kendall Wright in Chicago.
