Jean-Francois Berube

At just 25-years-old, the Islanders have had some high hopes for Jean-Francois Berube to develop into a solid goalie for them. Berube made his debut for the Islanders in the 2015-16 season and performed pretty well.

In his first season, he was able to total a 3-2-1 record in six starts. He had a .914 save percentage, 2.71 goals against average four quality starts. As a young goalie, it was an impressive showing for Berube, and that earned him a spot on the Islanders to start the season.

Due to the Islanders carrying three goalies, two of which were veterans, Berube didn’t see the ice in the NHL until December. Having that much time without game action certainly didn’t help Berube grow as a player, and he might have been better if the situation was handled properly.

Last season, Berube totaled 3-2-2 record in seven starts. Overall, he played in 14 games while totaling a .889 save percentage and 3.42 GAA. After Halak was sent to the AHL, the Islanders asked Berube to be the normal backup to Greiss. He wasn’t able to live up to the potential we saw the season before, and Halak was eventually recalled.

Even though he was put in a poor situation to start the season, Berube didn’t perform when he was given the chance.
