New York Giants show confidence in Paul Perkins
LeGarrette Blount has signed a 1 year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. What does this mean for the New York Giants and their running back situation?
A running back option for the New York Giants went off the market this week. On Wednesday, LeGarrette Blount signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. It was reported that the Giants would attempt to lure Blount into signing in New York; this was after the Giants had let go of Rashad Jennings and drafted Wayne Gallman out of Clemson.
Blount signing with the Eagles shows that the Giants have confidence in their second year running back, Paul Perkins. The plan for Gallman is to have him play the same role Rashad Jennings had prior to his release by the Giants. However, Perkins will be the top running back with Shane Vereen filling a backup role.
Following the news that Blount would be signing with the Eagles, ESPN put out a story reporting that the Giants had offered the former Patriot a small deal.

"The Giants never really made a serious play for Blount. There was mutual interest before the draft and a token minimum-salary offer in recent weeks, according to multiple sources. Blount ultimately signed a deal that could net him close to $3 million for the 2017 season with the Eagles."
The Giants drafted Perkins with the 149th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. In his 2016 rookie campaign, Perkins served mostly as a backup behind Rashad Jennings. Towards the end of the season, Perkins showed that he could be a real star in the NFL with 226 yards on 47 carries helping the Giants to wins over the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions. It helped the Giants ultimately lock up the 5 seed.
Perkins’ status as a Giants running back was in question when Adrian Peterson publicly said that he wanted to be a New York Giant. This led to many wondering what the Giants would do with Perkins if Peterson had ultimately signed with the Giants.
