New York Giants defensive tackle Damon Harrison is unhappy with his spot in NFL Network’s top 100 player list and we agree with him.

The New York Giants had a big time turnaround in 2016. Their defense was a big reason for their four-year playoff drought coming to an end. One of the cornerstones of that defense was Damon Harrison.

Harrison was one of the big splashes that the Giants made in free agency last year. Jerry Reese spent hundreds of millions of dollars to improve the defense. In addition to Harrison, Reese signed Olivier Vernon and Janoris Jenkins. Reese was also able to retain Jason Pierre-Paul to give the Giants a fearsome defensive line.

The defensive line isn’t the only talented part of the Giants defense or roster in general. The Giants are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. A number of their players should land on NFL Network’s top players of 2017 list.

NFL Network puts together a yearly list of the top 100 players in the league. Last year the Giants had only two players, Odell Beckham Jr. and Eli Manning, on the list. This year, the list could have two or three times that many players.

The first Giants player to make an appearance on the 2017 list is defensive tackle Damon Harrison. Harrison comes in at 96 on the list after being unranked last year. It was not a ranking that sat well with Harrison.

Cracking the top-100 is obviously a great honor. But we would agree with Harrison; being ranked 96th seems a little bit lot.

More from New York Giants

Harrison is a game changer in the middle of the defensive line. Despite going undrafted out of William Penn, Harrison has developed into one of the most feared run stuffers in the NFL.

Harrison has been named the best run defender in the NFL for two straight seasons by Pro Football Focus. In 2016, Harrison had the highest run defense grade among defensive tackles with an 88.9. He had 49 defensive stops against the run, which was 10 more than the next closest player at defensive tackle.

Harrison is in a class of his own when he comes to stopping the run. Last season he totaled 86 tackles and 2.5 sacks; both career-highs. He is a difference maker in the middle of the Giants defensive line and someone that teams have to game plan around.

Harrison sounds like he will be motivated again this season to prove that ranking be to too low. We can’t wait to see it as he should once again be the anchor in the middle for the Giants run defense.
