Pick No. 39: Marcus Maye: S: Florida

Many Jets fans were surprised when the organization drafted two safeties consecutively in the draft. Don’t worry, you’ll see this twice again in this draft. Maye was a first round talent at safety and now gives the Jets a safety duo that could be something special moving forward.

However, the team also missed out on some great cornerback prospects and elite running back prospect Dalvin Cook. Cook would have helped the young quarterbacks in the Jets organization and could be the feature back for the next decade.

While both Adams and Maye played the same safety position in college, their skill sets make them interchangeable at the strong and free safety positions. Out of the two, Adams figures to play the free safety position more given his ball skills and instincts for making interceptions.

A great pick that could give to give the Jets a talented pair of safeties, there are two knocks that reduce the final score. First, it wasn’t the biggest Jets’ need at the time and the team could have grabbed a starting caliber cornerback. Second, they missed out on Dalvin Cook who could be a great offensive weapon that would take the pressure off whoever the Jets quarterback will be.
