The New York Jets were very active during the 2017 NFL Draft. General manager Mike Maccagnan worked the phones, making numerous trades that resulted in nine picks being made. For a Jets team in need of help at multiple positions, it was a sound strategy to add as much talent to the roster as possible.

In this year’s draft, the Jets are the best example that patience can pay off in a big way. In 2015, they waited and ended up with Leonard Williams. This year, the Jets waited and ended up with arguably the second best prospect in the draft in LSU safety, Jamal Adams.

Adams will be a day one starter and has the potential to be a Pro-Bowl caliber player. A versatile safety who can play the pass and the run, Adams will help fix the back-end of the secondary that was torched for big plays last season.

While Adams is an impressive player on the field, one of the biggest bonuses about him is that he is considered a great leader. While on the surface this may not mean much, this draft which started with Adams and was a common theme was finding great locker room, guys.

After the debacle last year within the Jets locker room, it’s clear that the front office is looking to change the culture and Adams will be a huge part of that.

With Adams and Leonard Williams, the Jets could have two of the brightest young defensive players in the NFL for years to come.
