New York Giants Rumors: Despite selecting a running back in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Giants may not be done adding players to the position.

The New York Giants may have just wrapped up business in the 2017 NFL Draft, but New York Giants rumors never sleep. The Giants were able to address a number of needs in the short and long term with their draft picks. One of those needs that were filled was at running back.

The Giants selected Clemson running back Wayne Gallman with their fourth round selection. Gallman is a solid all-around running back. He was extremely productive at Clemson and brings a lot to the table. He gets it done as a ball carrier but is also helpful in the passing game.

Many people figured this would be all that the Giants do at running back. In addition to Gallman, the Giants also added Shaun Draughn as a free agent. Those two will join holdovers Paul Perkins and Shane Vereen; veteran Rashad Jennings was released earlier in the offseason. That thinking may have been premature.

Minutes after the Giants selected Pittsburgh offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty, ESPN New York’s Jordan Raanan shared some information from Giants general manager Jerry Reese about the running back situation. It sounds like Gallman may not be the final move made there this offseason.

Blount and the Giants were linked together by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport days before the 2017 NFL Draft begun. The Giants were in need of a bigger power back to complement Perkins, Vereen, and Draughn.

The addition of Gallman lessened that need, as he has the size to help the Giants in between the tackles and in short-yardage situations. But, with what Reese has said, it sounds like the Giants will still evaluate whether or not they should add a player such as Blount into the fold.

You can never have too many healthy bodies in the backfield. The Giants know that first hand as they have had to go deep into their running back depth chart in recent seasons. Blount would give the Giants an experienced power back that knows how to get the job done in short-yardage situations and at the goal line.

The Giants will more than likely take it slow in regards to Blount. They will sift through the undrafted free agent pool and see if there are any other veterans made available after the draft. Some room can always be made for a player coming off an 18-touchdown season like Blount is.
