What selections did the New York Giants make in Todd McShay’s perfect three-round mock draft?

The New York Giants have had a very good offseason thus far. They will look to put the finishing touches on their roster improvement in the 2017 NFL Draft this week.

The Giants have a pick in every round, with the first being No.23 overall. The needs for the Giants are clear after what they have done this offseason thus far. They could use an upgrade on the offensive line and an impact linebacker. Replacing Johnathan Hankins along the defensive line is a necessity as well.

Running back could be another place the Giants look as well. The Giants have been linked to free agent LeGarrette Blount, but a deal is unlikely to come together until after the draft depending on how things fall.

It is always difficult predicting where the Giants will go in the draft. They use the best player available strategy throughout the draft. Unless a player at a position of need falls and matches value, the Giants will go with the best player on their board.

In Todd McShay’s perfect three-round mock draft, the Giants accomplish both. McShay writes up the perfect three-round mock draft for all 32 teams in the NFL on ESPN. His selections for the Giants not only hit value but fill needs as well.

Here is what McShay had to say about the Giants perfect three-round mock draft.

"Round 1 (23): Jarrad Davis, LB, FloridaRound 2 (55):Caleb Brantley, DT, FloridaRound 3 (87): Gerald Everett, TE, South AlabamaThe Giants have invested heavily in their front four and secondary the past few offseasons, and I like the idea of adding a playmaker to the second level. Davis still has room to grow in coverage, but he’s an elite run defender, showing the ability to react and close on the ball in a hurry (much like Bucs LB Kwon Alexander). Brantley, Davis’ Florida teammate, is another disruptive run defender, and Everett’s athleticism and ball skills give him the potential to be a pass-catching mismatch at the next level."

The Giants would probably prefer an offensive lineman such as Garret Bolles falls to them, but they won’t complain about Davis. Davis would fill an immediate need for the Giants at linebacker to help against the run, replacing Kelvin Sheppard.

Florida had one of the best defenses in college football last season, so doubling down with another one of their better players makes sense. Brantley would help the Giants replace Hankins up front next to Damon Harrison as a run stuffer.

Everett would give Eli Manning another weapon offensively. Manning has excelled in the past with bigger receivers and a tight end that can stretch the field up the seam. The Giants got their big receiver in Brandon Marshall; Everett could be the tight end to dominate the middle of the field up the seam.

This would be strong first three rounds for the Giants, hitting on needs and value. But, it is tough to see the Giants going in this direction. Davis’ durability is a concern, and the Giants haven’t selected a linebacker in the first round since Carl Banks in 1984. It would not surprise anyone if they passed on a linebacker once again.
