New York Giants Full 2017 Seven Round Mock Draft
Sixth Round Pick: Robert Davis; Wide Receiver, Georgia Southern
There is no denying that the Giants are pretty set at wide receiver. Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the best receivers in the NFL. Sterling Shepard had a strong rookie season working out of the slot. Brandon Marshall was added this offseason to bring much-needed size and experience.
But, no one knows how long Marshall will be with the Giants. After those three, there is very little to get excited about. The Giants like Roger Lewis Jr., but he struggled at times last year. Tavarres King looked good in the offseason but didn’t receive many opportunities once the games began counting. Adding some competition to the wide receiver depth chart wouldn’t be a bad idea, and that is what we do with the Giants’ sixth pick.
Davis is a steal at this point in the draft based on upside. He played at Georgia Southern so it wasn’t the greatest of competition, but Davis dominated. He played in all 48 career games, setting school records with 222 receptions and 3,391 yards. Davis also dominated the combine, finishing first in the broad jump and second in vertical jump and bench press.
The Giants can afford to groom him, as he could improve his route running and getting off the line of scrimmage. He would be afforded those chances with the Giants, as the top three spots on their depth chart are locked in.
