New York Mets Rumors: Despite recent injuries the team does not plan to promote either of their two top offensive prospects any time in the near future.

Recent New York Mets rumors makes It appear as though we will not be seeing Amed Rosario or Dominic Smith in Flushing anytime soon.

On Saturday, prior to the game against the Washington Nationals, Mets manager Terry Collins was asked about the possibility of the team promoting Rosario or Smith. With all of the injuries the Mets have had to deal with lately, promoting one or both of them seems like a legitimate option.

Collins made it clear however that there are currently no plans to promote either player any time soon, as reported by Marc Craig of Newsday.

If Jose Reyes continues to struggle, there is a chance that we could see Rosario sometime in the middle of the season. Reyes has really gotten off to a bad start. He is hitting just .095 and does not have any home runs or RBIs yet. Collins decided to sit him on Saturday in order to give him a day to clear his head.

What the Mets could do eventually is move Asdrubal Cabrera over to third base, and then call up Rosario to play shortstop, his natural position. However, he has been playing a little bit of third base lately for the Las Vegas 51s in Triple-A. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets would not play Rosario at third base should they promote him.

Rosario has gotten off to a great start this season. The 21-year-old is hitting .362 in 58 at-bats for the 51s. If he keeps this up, it is going to be hard for the Mets to justify keeping him in Triple-A, especially if Reyes continues to struggle.

As far as Smith goes, he has also been putting up good numbers for the 51s. In 62 at-bats, he’s hitting .323 with two home runs and 9 RBIs. Lucas Duda and Wilmer Flores are both injured right now, so the Mets do not have a lot of depth at first base. This is why it was rumored that the Mets might be considering calling up Smith.

Duda has a hyperextended elbow and was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday. Flores is currently in the hospital due to a knee infection. He was also placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday. Jay Bruce has taken over at first base with Duda and Flores unavailable.

It would not make a lot of sense to promote Smith to play first base for less than two weeks. When the Mets decide to finally call him up, he will probably take over the position for good. Whether that time is going to be later this season or next year remains to be seen.

For now, Mets fans are going to have to wait to see Rosario and Smith. If the team continues to have a hard time scoring runs though, the patience of the fans will start to run out.
