The New York Knicks landed Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox with the seventh overall pick in Chad Ford’s latest mock draft.

The New York Knicks missed the postseason, so they will be in the NBA Lottery. Normally this is a trying time for the Knicks fans as they haven’t owned many of their first round picks in recent years. For all the dysfunction and poor play from the Knicks this season, one positive is that they actually own their first round pick this season.

The Knicks finished tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the regular season. As a result, they had to have a tiebreaker, which the Knicks lost. The teams finished tied with the sixth worst record, so the Timberwolves will be sixth and the Knicks will be seventh; they will split the sixth and seventh place odds of winning the lottery.

The Knicks will have to wait until May 16th to find out where they will be drafting. Until then, we can read some mock drafts based off where the teams are now in the order with the tiebreakers being finalized.

More from New York Knicks

In the latest mock draft from Chad Ford at ESPN, the Knicks select Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox with the seventh overall pick. Here is what Ford had to say about the selection.

"The Knicks will take a close look at Fox, Smith and Frank Ntilikina if they’re all available. With Derrick Rose likely to leave the Knicks via free agency this summer, landing a young point guard to play next to Kristaps Porzingis looks like a strong option for New York.Fox isn’t a great perimeter shooter, but he has every other attribute you want in point guard. If he ever gets a solid jumper, he could be a star."

If the Knicks are able to land a player of Fox’s caliber they will be happy. Some wins at the end of the season dropped them in the draft order, but as long as they finish within the top-seven they should be able to land one of the top point guard prospects in the draft.

After Markelle Fultz and Lonzo Ball, Fox is arguably the third best point guard in the class. He brings a lot to the table that teams would like. He is lightning quick, possessing elite athleticism and speed. He is also a tenacious defender, as he can be disruptive giving his size as he stands 6-feet-4 inches tall.

Fox should be able to find success right away with his athleticism as he can get to the rim and is an excellent slasher. But if he wants to take his game to the next level he will have to develop a better jump shot. Fox shot only 24.6 percent from the three-point line, limiting the damage he can do offensively.

Despite not having much of a jump shot, Fox still managed to average 16.4 points per game, adding 4.6 assists and 4.0 rebounds. He would be an excellent addition to a Knicks roster void of many talents in the backcourt and a building block to go along with Kristaps Porzingis.

Fox would fill both needs right off the bat. He would improve the Knicks perimeter defense, taking pressure off the big men inside. While he needs to improve his jump shot, his ability to get to the rim will be an asset right from the start.
