Nets Rumors: Brook Lopez Has No Desire To Leave Brooklyn
Brooklyn Nets Rumors: Brook Lopez has no desire to leave the Brooklyn Nets as he enters the final year of his contract.
Recent Brooklyn Nets rumors involve franchise center, Brook Lopez. Lopez has been the center of trade chatter for a while now as the Nets are in a clear rebuild.
Moving Lopez would the quickest way for the Nets to restock their treasure chest of assets. He is the best player on the team and would land the best package in a trade. A center with Lopez’s skill set should garner plenty of attention, especially since he has expanded his range to the three-point line.
The Nets discussed moving Lopez at the NBA Trade Deadline, but nothing came to fruition. Lopez is entering the final year of his contract, which will only heighten the trade talk once again. But, if it were up to Lopez, he wouldn’t be going anywhere.

Lopez is committed to the Nets, the organization that selected him with the 10th overall pick in 2008. He has no desire to leave the team and is happy where he is despite the Nets being as far away from contending as any team in the NBA.
"“I don’t know about value, or anything like that,” Lopez told the New York Post. “I’m happy to be here. … I hope just with my off-the-court attributes, the way I’ve led, the way I’ve helped other players grow, I hope those were characteristics that really showed how important I am to this group.”"
Lopez has been the center of attention for the Nets for a long time now. He showcased why once again during the 2016-17 season. While the Nets finished with the worst record in the NBA, Lopez put together a strong season.
Lopez averaged 20.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 blocks despite playing only 29.6 minutes per game; the third lowest minutes per game average in a season in his career. The three-point shooting was an excellent addition, as he made 134 three-pointers on 387 attempts after going 3-for-31 the previous eight seasons.
Lopez is an important part of the what the Nets are building. While he wants to remain with the Nets, we will have to see if they share the same feeling. Paying top dollar for a center that will be 30 when he hits free agency seems counteractive to the rebuild the Nets are putting together.
