New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose will miss the remainder of the season with a torn meniscus.
The New York Knicks received some bad news in regard to point guard Derrick Rose. It was announced that Rose will miss the remainder of the season after it was revealed that he tore the meniscus in his right knee.
The left knee is what Rose originally injured in the 2012 postseason that derailed his career. People close to Rose believe that he will be back at full strength two months after surgery.
Rose said that he originally felt some discomfort in his knee prior to the Knicks’ game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. Rose ended up playing 33 minutes in that game, scoring 27 points in the victory. Rose missed the next two games with what the team called soreness and swelling but ended up being the torn meniscus.
This was the first knee related injury that Rose had with the Knicks, as he remained relatively healthy throughout the season.

Rose dealt with back spasms earlier in the season that caused him to miss a few games. An ankle injury also slowed him down. But, with the team out of the postseason, the Knicks were expected to scale back Rose’s playing time. Now, with the meniscus injury, Rose will be out of the lineup for the remainder of the season, possibly ending his Knicks tenure.
Rose is set to hit unrestricted free agency. Both Rose and his agent, B.J. Armstrong, had stated that Rose wants to return to the Knicks. The Knicks have not ruled out an extension for Rose, but should already know if they want him back or not.
The answer should be letting him walk. The Rose acquisition has not panned out as Phil Jackson had hoped. Jackson hoped trading for Rose and signing Joakim Noah would help push the Knicks into the postseason, but both players will end the season on the sidelines; Rose because of an injury, Noah because of suspension.
Rose had a decent season with the Knicks, averaging 18 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. He showed some of his old burst and explosion, as he got to the basket with will. But, basketball is played on both ends of the court. For how easily Rose gets to the basket offensively, he allows his opponent to score just as easily.

With a top pick coming in the 2017 NBA Draft, the Knicks would be smart to let Rose walk as a free agent. Jackson has to be kicking himself for not executing a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves prior to the NBA Trade Deadline for Ricky Rubio.
