The New York Knicks came up short in Salt Lake City, losing to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.

101. 27. Final. 108. 118

The New York Knicks losing ways continued on Wednesday night. The Utah Jazz were able to outlast the Knicks, who gave them a good fight right from the opening tip. The Knicks actually held the lead for a majority of the game but slowed down in the second half.

The Knicks have a strong first quarter, outscoring the Jazz 34-26. But, New York would lose every quarter after that, with a punctuation point 10-point win in the fourth quarter from Utah. This was actually a game the Knicks probably should have won, but they were unable to finish off defensive possessions.

Overall the defense wasn’t horrible for the Knicks; it has been much worse at times this season. Where they struggled was rebounding. Utah had 18 offensive rebounds, led by 11 from Rudy Gobert. Utah didn’t have a great game offensively but took so many shots they were eventually able to wear down the Knicks.

More from New York Knicks

The Knicks were able to slow down Gordon Hayward, who didn’t have it offensively. He shot only 6-of-17 from the field, and 1-of-7 from deep, for 19 points. His teammates were able to pick up the slack and take home a win.

The Knicks actually found success on offense despite going up against one of the best defenses in the NBA. New York shot 48.1 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from the three-point line. Unfortunately, the shooting performance wasn’t enough to overcome the rebounding disadvantage.

Three Stars

C Willy Hernangomez, Knicks — With Jeff Hornacek constantly changing the rotation, some players get lost in the shuffle. One player that has at times is Hernangomez. But, when he gets on the court, he produces. In 17 minutes against the Jazz, Hernangomez scored nine points to go with 10 rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

C Rudy Gobert, Jazz — Gobert absolutely dominated the Knicks tonight. He had a huge impact on both ends of the court and was a difference maker. Offensively, he dominated the paint. He scored 35 points, going 13-of-14 from the field and 9-of-12 from the foul line. He also had 11 offensive rebounds. Defensively, Gobert changed a number of shots at the rim, blocking four shots and making one steal.

PF Kristaps Porzingis, Knicks — Porzingis had his hands full going up against Gobert but he held his own at times. He scored a team-high 24 points, showcasing his array of moves. He scored from inside and out, making 8-of-17 overall, 3-of-7 from deep and 5-of-6 from the foul line. He struggled containing Gobert on the boards, but as the only big on the court at times the Knicks left him out to dry at times.
