The New York Jets hosted wide receiver Quinton Patton for a free agent visit this weekend.

The New York Jets continue to host free agents as they look to go bargain bin shopping in free agency. The Jets are hosting quarterback Josh McCown this weekend, and things are reportedly going well.

If the Jets are able to land McCown, they fill one of the holes on their roster by adding a veteran quarterback. One of the other holes the team needs to fill is at wide receiver.

Brandon Marshall was already released and signed early in free agency with the New York Giants. There is a chance that Eric Decker is also given his walking papers later in the offseason once he is healthy.

Whether Decker is released or not, the Jets need to bring in some wide receivers to help fill the void left by Marshall. Quincy Enunwa leads the way for what is left at wide receiver, with intriguing young pieces such as Robbie Anderson and Charone Peake looking to make a mark this season.

It would not be surprising to see the Jets add a veteran player in free agency and look to add more youth via the draft. One player to keep an eye on in free agency is Quinton Patton.

Patton was being hosted by the Jets this weekend on a free agent visit according to the team’s website. He hadn’t received much of an opportunity in his four-year career with the San Francisco 49ers but put up career stats in 2016.

Patton recorded a career-high 37 receptions for 408 yards last season in 14 games. In his career, he has only 73 receptions for 880 yards and one touchdown. Patton has a connection to the Jets, which could partly explain his visit.

New Jets offensive coordinator, John Morton, was the first wide receivers coach that Patton played under in the NFL. Morton was the wide receiver coach for the 49ers from 2011-2014 before becoming the New Orleans Saints wide receiver coach from 2015-2016 before becoming the offensive coordinator for the Jets this season.

Patton was originally selected by the 49ers in the fourth round, 128th overall, in the 2013 NFL Draft. He would bring some experience to the Jets, but they may just be better off giving more chances to some of their younger players. In addition to Enunwa, Anderson, and Peake, the Jets are still waiting on 2015 second round pick Devin Smith to show something.
