New York Islanders: Goalie Struggles Could Lead to Roster Changes
By Nick Ziegler
The New York Islanders have had some recent problems at goalie. Could J.F. Berube be in danger of losing his spot as the backup goalie?
Recently, the New York Islanders have had some issues in net. They have had a few games where they have allowed far too many goals, and there might be time for a change.
Earlier in the season, the Islanders made the decision to waive goalie Jaroslav Halak. Afer clearing waivers, Halak went to play in the AHL. As a starting caliber goalie, Halak has played very well in the AHL.
The decision to waive Halak cleared the way for J.F. Berube. The Islanders have high hopes for the young goalie, but he hasn’t played well so far. This season, Berube has totaled a 3-2-2 record, 3.42 GAA, and a .889 save percentage. Due to his struggles, Berube could be in danger of losing his spot.
"“Kind of a stupid question, I don’t know,” Berube said to Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post. “I’m here, I hope I did enough to be here. I worked hard to be in this position. At the same time, I’ve been working hard and trying to find my game.“It really stings right now because I know I’m a lot better than this. It’s a really tough situation, but I’m not going to give up. I know people believe in me, just have to find a way.”"
In addition to the struggles of Berube, Thomas Greiss has also struggled recently. In the month of March, Greiss has allowed four goals in four separate games. With both goalies struggling, the Islanders might have to consider bring Halak back to the main roster.

The Islanders are still in the playoff hunt, but they do need better production from their goalies. If Greiss and Berube continue to struggle, we may see Halak back on the team soon.
