The Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks wrap up their season series tonight at Madison Square Garden. This is the fourth and final time the teams will meet, with the Knicks winning two of the first three meetings.
A lot has changed since the last time these teams met. The Knicks extended the Pacers losing streak to three games in the last matchup, as both teams still had playoff aspirations. Fast forward to tonight’s game, and only the Pacers are fighting for a playoff spot.
Indiana is currently holding down the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference with a 34-32 record. They are only 2.5 games ahead of the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat, who are tied for ninth place in the East. Right behind the Pacers are the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks, who trail Indiana by one and two games respectively.

Mathematically the Knicks are not eliminated, but for all intensive purposes, they will not be qualifying. The remainder of the season is being used as an evaluation for the Knicks, as Phil Jackson is hellbent on the team sticking with the triangle.
There is no harm done to the Knicks for losing games, who should be focusing on getting the best possible draft pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Since they actually own their first round pick this year, they will reap the benefits of a losing season.
