New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony is in a weird situation and Golden State Warriors forward Matt Barnes shared his thoughts on it.

The New York Knicks faced off with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday afternoon. The Knicks would lose the game but fought hard to the final whistle. Losing has become something of the norm for the Knicks in recent weeks and months.

After losing to the Warriors on Sunday, the Knicks record stands at 25-38. They are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference, 5.5 games out of a playoff spot. The Knicks are 9-21 in 2017, one of the worst records in the NBA.

The Knicks have all but played themselves out of a playoff spot. It would be a disappointing outcome as the Knicks changed course last offseason from the rebuild they were on. They signed veterans such as Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, and Brandon Jennings. They also traded for Derrick Rose.

All of those moves were supposed to push the Knicks closer to the playoffs, but it seems to have done the opposite. Those moves have not panned out well. Noah is in danger of missing the season because of injury, Rose has provided mixed results at best, and Jennings isn’t even with the team anymore. Lee has been solid, but the Knicks are not really in playoff contention.

More from Carmelo Anthony

One of the players that are hurt most by this is Carmelo Anthony. Anthony had made the postseason the first 10 seasons of his career; he has missed the playoffs the past three seasons and this season looks like it will be the fourth.

Anthony had pushed the Knicks to upgrade the talent on the roster and add some veterans to the roster this past offseason. The front office obliged, but things have not worked out. Anthony has suffered through a tough season as Phil Jackson has continually bashed him.

Jackson has talked Anthony down on social media anytime he has gotten the chance to do so. It has made for a strained relationship, as Jackson was reportedly determined to move Anthony prior to the NBA Trade Deadline. Anthony held all of the power with a full no-trade clause and had no intention of moving.

The situation has been a topic of discussion, as free agents are reportedly turned off by the Knicks because of how Jackson has treated Anthony. One person to share his feelings on the Anthony situation is Warriors small forward Matt Barnes.

"That’s tough. It’s real tough to be a player and hear and see situations going on when you’re giving your heart and soul to a team,” Barnes told ESPN. “People don’t realize that this is our lives and we give everything we have to a team. To someone of his caliber to hear that he’s not wanted after all he’sdone for this time, it’s probably tough to swallow. But I take my hat off to him. He’s said the right things and done the right things and continued to play hard.”"

Barnes also told Anthony to keep his head amongst all of the rumors and uncertainty surrounding him.

Barnes knows a thing or two about trade rumors. He has been traded four times in his career so he knows all about changing teams unexpectedly. He has also been waived three times and has played for nine different organizations.

The trade rumors are unlikely to stop surrounding Anthony. They will undoubtedly keep coming once the offseason begins as more teams will be able to get into the bidding for him. Anthony would be smart to take Barnes’ advice and keep his head, focusing on what he can control. He has all of the power in this situation
