Most Valuable Player

The most valuable player for the Mets in 2017 is certainly an easy choice. Since arriving in New York, Yoenis Cespedes has been the best player on the team, and he wasted no time making an impact.

Prior to the trade that acquired him from the Detroit Tigers, the Mets had one of the worst offenses in the majors. Since then, the Mets have really turned things around offensively, and that has a lot to do with Cespedes being in the middle of the order.

Despite battling injuries last season, Cespedes was able to have a great first full season in New York. He totaled a .280 batting average, 31 home runs, and 86 RBIs. Due to the great season, Cespedes wisely used the opt-out clause in his contract. The Mets and Cespedes were able to agree on a new deal this offseason, and he will continue to be the heart of their lineup.

If the Mets are a contender like many believe they can be, Cespedes will likely be the National League MVP conversation. Even though there are some great pitchers on the team, it is Cespedes who will be the MVP of the Mets in 2017. If not for Cespedes in the middle of the lineup, the Mets’ offense all of a sudden loses a lot of its luster.
