The New York Mets will be returning to West Point for an exhibition game against Army for the first time in over three decades.

The New York Mets will be returning to West Point this Spring Training. The Mets are set to face Army in an exhibition game on March 31st at 3 PM ET. The game will be played at Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium.

This will be the first visit that the Mets pay to West Point in 33 years. It will be the ninth time that they play an exhibition game there, with the last coming in 1984 when the Mets defeated Army 6-0.

The first time that the Mets played at West Point came all the way back in 1963, their second season in existence. The Mets also won that game, 3-0 on May 6th, 1963.

Chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon expressed his excitement and joy to be playing an exhibition there in a statement from the team.

"“Sandy Alderson and I were so inspired by our visit to the West Point campus last year that we wanted our players to have that experience. The Mets are proud to be able to continue the strong bond we have with our military, and this is a new way to show our appreciation for the sacrifices and bravery of our nation’s armed forces. We are looking forward to the game.”"

The Mets announced the game via their Twitter account earlier in the week.

This will be an amazing experience for everyone involved. It will be a memory that the players on Army will never forget taking the field against some major leaguers. For the Mets, it is a chance to experience something not many people ever have, or will experience, in their life.

This will be the final tune-up game for the Mets before getting the regular season started. The Mets will get things started for real on April 3rd when they face their NL East division rivals in the Atlanta Braves. That game will be played at Citi Field, and could be the first time that we see Bartolo Colon in a Braves uniform taking on his old team.
