Point guard Derrick Rose has returned to the New York Knicks and has been fined for missing Monday night’s game.

Derrick Rose caused a stir on Monday night when he went missing. The New York Knicks point guard did not show up for their game against the New Orleans Pelicans after being present at shootaround earlier in the day. No one had any knowledge of Rose’s absence, so he was scratched at 7:33 PM ET, three minutes after the game was scheduled to tip off.

The Knicks were blown out by the Pelicans as teammates were concerned with Rose’s wellbeing. After the game, Joakim Noah said that he was in touch with Rose and that he was doing okay. He would not elaborate further, as he did not have any more details about what was going on.

Today, we received some more information on the bizarre incident. Rose was present at practice this afternoon, as the Knicks PR Twitter account tweeted out a picture that he was in.

Rose met with media on Tuesday and revealed that he returned to Chicago on Monday for family reasons. He said that he needed to be with his mother, and he returned to the Knicks on Tuesday morning.

Rose issued apologies to a lot of people Tuesday, including his teammates, general manager Steve Mills and president Phil Jackson. Mills and Jackson to what Rose had to say about not showing up last night and accepted his reasoning. ESPN reached out to Jackson for comment but he declined.

More from New York Knicks

Rose did not reach out to the team until late Monday night when he tried to make a plan to return to New York. He said that he did not answer calls from the team because he needed space to process what was happening with his family.

So concerned with his well-being, the Knicks reportedly sent people to Rose’s apartment in New York to check up on him.

As a result of skipping the game without notifying anyone, the Knicks have fined Rose. But, he is expected to be in uniform Wednesday when they play against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks will then travel to face the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.

It is good that Rose is safe, but skipping out on a game without notifying anyone should not go without punishment. A fine for players making millions of dollars isn’t enough. Rose should be suspended or benched for his actions.

It is not difficult to reach out to officials to say that you will not be able to make the game in this day and age. The Knicks need to hold Rose accountable for his actions, and suspension should get the message across.
