New York Giants: 3 Keys to Beating Green Bay Packers
By Nick Ziegler
3.) Be Respectable on the Ground
One of the reasons why the Giants have struggled this season has been due to their inability to run the football. With a shaky offensive line, the Giants have had a hard time getting a running game established. That has resulted in defenses being able to key on the Giants’ passing attack that also has struggled.
To start the season, running back Rashad Jennings was the featured back. However, we have begun to see the shift that many expected. Rookie running back Paul Perkins has played well lately, and he might be the featured back against the Packers.
In the last two games, Perkins has had more carries than Jennings, and we should expect that to continue on Sunday. In the Week 17 win against the Washington Redskins, Perkins totaled 102 rushing yards. Even though Perkins has had more touches than Jennings, he has still been a sizeable part of the offense.
If Perkins is able to do that on the ground against the Packers, it will greatly help the Giants’ offense. Having a balanced attack will help Eli Manning and the passing attack. Also, it will keep Aaron Rodgers off the field if the Giants are able to control the clock. A strong running game and a good defense is the recipe for an upset win on the road.
