Now before you jump to conclusions I’m not saying the Jets will cut Richardson to save cap space. However, it’s clear the franchise is open to moving the former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year as the team almost completed a deal with the Dallas Cowboys around the trading deadline.

Richardson’s off the field antics could hurt the asking price, however the Jets have an abundance of defensive linemen and Todd Bowles has made it clear the he is sticking to a 3-4 defense as opposed to a 4-3 look to get the “big three” on the field.

With Wilkerson locked up for the long-term and Leonard Williams emerging as one of the game’s brightest young stars, the Jets could use either draft picks or additional players instead of over $8 Million next season for the 27 year-old and then losing him in free agency for nothing.

With no dead cap attached to next year’s salary, it looks like the question for the front office is when and not if they move Richardson in the offseason.
