New York Giants Team Grades vs Philadelphia Eagles Week 16
Coaching Staff Grade: B+
There is only so much a coaching staff can do during a regular week; an abbreviated week with a game on a Thursday is not easy to navigate. It was smart by the team to hold out Janoris Jenkins to ensure he is healthy for the final week of the season and postseason should the Giants qualify.
The coaching staff did their best to get the Giants in a position to win but the players just did not execute well throughout. McAdoo cannot force Manning to make the right read or help his receivers catch the ball. He probably should have leaned on the running game a little more as Manning didn’t look like he had it from the beginning.
But, with the Giants trailing virtually the whole game there was little he could do. They needed to move down the field quickly and usually, Manning’s arm is the best way to do that. It was also encouraging to see McAdoo keep his team afloat after the poor start. He huddled them together and they responded as they came close to climbing out of the early hole they dug themselves in.
Steve Spagnuolo continues to work magic with this defense. Down two of their best players in Jason Pierre-Paul and Janoris Jenkins he still made things work. The first drive was horrible, but after that, they allowed only 10 points the rest of the game; one deep play goes Agholor and a field goal in which Manning’s interception put the Eagles at almost midfield.

Like McAdoo with the offense, Spagnuolo cannot tackle for his team. The missed opportunities to get Wentz to the ground were disheartening to see, and the dropped interception from Casillas hurt.
While the referees didn’t help the Giants, they also couldn’t get out of their own way. The coaching staff did what they could to get them ready, but at the end of the day they have to execute the gameplan and they didn’t against the Eagles this time around.
