New York Giants Team Grades vs Philadelphia Eagles Week 16
Passing Offense Grade: C+
It was another difficult game for Eli Manning. He was unable to get anything going downfield against the Eagles two-deep coverage. Manning made some questionable throws and wasn’t helped by his receivers on some occasions.
Manning was asked to throw an absurd 63 passes, which seems unnecessary based on how well the running game was operating. He completed 38 of those passes for 356 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The offensive line gave Manning solid time in the pocket throughout the night, as he wasn’t sacked and was hit 10 times; given his number of drop backs and the Giants abandoning the run game that isn’t too bad.
This was the first time we saw the Giants trio of receivers really get to work in the same game. All three of Odell Beckham Jr., Sterling Shepard, and Victor Cruz had good games. Beckham Jr. led the way with 11 receptions for 150 yards on a crazy 20 targets. He constantly made plays after the catch working underneath.
Shepard has become a redzone favorite of Manning and scored again against the Eagles. He had seven receptions for 61 yards, but also had a brutal drop in the first half on a deep shot that he has to catch. Cruz had his second most yards in a game, catching eight passes for 84 yards.
The passing game has been extremely inconsistent this season and against the Eagles it was no different. Is Manning beginning his slide at 36-years old, or is the offensive line’s lack of protection stuck in his head? He missed some throws we have seen him make with ease in years past.
