The New York Giants were unable to lock up a playoff berth on Thursday Night Football thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles. Their NFC East foes will make them wait until Saturday to possibly clinch a spot in the postseason as the Eagles defeated the Giants 24-19.

The game was similar to when the teams played the first time this season at MetLife Stadium in Week 9. In that game the Giants got off to a fast 14-0 lead thanks to two Eagles turnovers. The Eagles battled back and had a shot to win the game in the final minutes but came up short as the Giants defense held. This time around the roles were reversed.

It was the Eagles who jumped out to an early lead. They went down the field with ease on their first offensive drive before picking off Eli Manning for a pick-six to give them an early 14-0 lead. The Giants battled back as their defense settled down and had the ball to go in for the lead in the final minute. Like the Eagles in Week 9, the Giants fell short as Manning threw another interception.

The Giants just did not have it at the beginning of the game and ultimately it cost them. The 14-0 lead was too much to overcome as the offense once again failed to consistently perform. The Giants own shortcomings would have been difficult to overcome but they did not receive any help from the referees, who looked to miss some blatant fouls; expect the NFL to apologize to the Giants for missing calls but that doesn’t change the outcome or Giants’ effort.

This was a disappointing performance from the Giants albeit a difficult game. They played two division leaders the past two weeks and looked to be a little ragged at the start. As a result the Eagles picked up the victory and the Dallas Cowboys are NFC East division champs. Check out our Giants team grades from the loss against the Eagles.
