In the loss last week the Dolphins suffered a huge loss when Ryan Tannehill got hurt. Calais Campbell hit Tannehill low and injured his knee. It looks as if Tannehill may have avoided catastrophe by not tearing his ACL, but he will still miss tonight’s game against the Jets.

In his place, the Dolphins will turn to veteran Matt Moore. Moore is one of the better backup quarterback options in the NFL; he is 13-12 in his career as a starter. But, he has not started a regular season game since 2011 when he started 12 games for the Dolphins. He has thrown only 35 regular-season passes since then.

That leaves some questions about just what the Dolphins can expect out of him. He is a veteran so he should be a solid game manager. But, the Dolphins are in a playoff race and may need him to make some plays to win the game. The Dolphins’ defense is not an elite unit by any means, so they may not be able to carry the offense.

Can Moore get the job done as the starter? The Jets should be motivated going up against a divisional opponent and have the incentive to ruin the Dolphins playoff hopes. The Jets have struggled to generate pressure on defense, but the Dolphins offensive line is battling some injuries so the Jets could have a chance to make something happen defensively.
