New York Giants: Five Takeaways From Loss to Pittsburgh Steelers
By Nick Ziegler
– Tough day for Eli
Much of the blame for the Giants loss will go on the shoulders of their quarterback Eli Manning. The defense did a pretty good job overall to hold down a talented Steelers offense, but it was Eli and the Giants offense that came up short.
However, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. In the past two weeks, the Giants offensive game plan has been rather poor. The conservative approach the past few weeks has led to bad teams hanging around. On Sunday, the offense once again looked poor.
In the loss, Manning totaled 195 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and two interceptions. Considering that Manning threw the ball 39 times, the 195 passing yards is really poor. Against the Steelers defense, the Giants should have been able to do far better on the offensive side of the ball.
While Manning should certainly take some of the blame, so must the coaches and offensive line. The Giants were barely able to get Manning time to throw the ball down the field, and there were a lot of quick dump off passes that resulted in nothing. It has been frustrating to watch the Giants offense the past few weeks with all of the talent that they have on that side of the ball. If they don’t fix things quick, they will be looking at another loss against the Cowboys.
