Mets Rumors: Toronto Blue Jays Offering Little For Jay Bruce
New York Mets Rumors: The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly still in on Jay Bruce, but are not offering the Mets very much.
New York Mets rumors continue to roll in surrounding their outfield. The Mets are looking to trade to break up the logjam they have out there, particularly in the corner outfield spots. With Yoenis Cespedes back in the fold, the Mets need to make a move, looking to add some help to their bullpen.
We have seen the Mets shopping Jay Bruce the hardest. They would prefer to hold onto Curtis Granderson, but he is actually drawing more interest on the trade market than Bruce. One player that has checked in on both of them is the Toronto Blue Jays.
Once Cespedes was retained, the Blue Jays reportedly began making a push for Bruce. They were also linked to Granderson, which makes sense.
The Blue Jays desperately need help in the corner outfield with Michael Saunders and Jose Bautista both free agents. They are both likely to move on this winter, leaving the Blue Jays with a big hole, especially when you add in that they may be losing Edwin Encarnacion as well.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Blue Jays are in fact still in on Bruce. But, they are not offering very much in a trade package for him.
With the interest in Granderson being higher, this shouldn’t be a surprise. The Mets are not going to get the bullpen help they are seeking for only Bruce, or even Granderson, for that matter. They may be able to get lower ceiling players for their bullpen, but if they want an impact arm to help at the end of games it will probably take more than Bruce or Granderson.

It is not shocking to see that the Blue Jays are offering very little. Bruce struggled mightily with the Mets, lowering his value. He is not as versatile as Granderson, as Bruce is pretty much stuck to right field; Granderson can chip in and play centerfield in a pinch.
Bruce’s best attribute, his power, is something that Granderson also brings to the table. Bruce hit 33 home runs last season, while Granderson hit 30 bombs. An argument can be made that the power production for Granderson was actually more impressive, as he didn’t have the luxury of playing the first half of the season at Great American Ballpark, a hitter’s haven the Reds call home.
The Mets will probably not get the value they are hoping for with Bruce. He is in the final year of his contract, so he is essentially a rental for whichever team trades for him. Add in the fact he struggled the final three months of the season and it is tough to expect the Mets getting much in return in a trade.

They will undoutbedly continue shopping Bruce, but if they want to make a difference somewhere else on the roster with the returning package they may have to part ways with Granderson.
