The New York Knicks picked up a victory over the Charlotte Hornets in the start of their home-and-home series.
The Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks played a good game Friday night. The Knicks were able to come out on top in the first game of the home-and-home series between the two teams. With the loss the Hornets are now riding a four-game losing streak and have a record of 8-7. The Knicks are riding a three-game winning streak and are also 8-7.
The Knicks are beginning to assert their dominance at Madison Square Garden. They are no 7-2 at home, winning four straight on their home court. Tonight they earned their win as the two teams were evenly matched throughout the night.
The Hornets were close to pulling away in the third quarter, as they started the quarter on fire. They built a 13-point and Kristaps Porzingis was forced to the bench in foul trouble. Things looked bleak, but the Knicks were able to respond. They closed out the quarter on an 18-4 run to take a five-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Knicks were unable to put the Hornets away in regulation as they battled right to the very end. The players looked gassed with both teams playing hard throughout the night, but it was the Knicks players that were able to give that little extra at the end.
Carmelo Anthony knocked down the game-winning shot in overtime and Derrick Rose blocked Kemba Walker‘s attempt at tying the game. Walker was able to force overtime with an and-one against Willy Hernangomez but couldn’t replicate the magic in the extra period.
The Knicks caught a break from the foul line tonight. They attempted only 13, but were able to make 12 of them. The Hornets struggled all night from the charity stripe, making only 17-of-27 on the night.
Three Stars
F Carmelo Anthony, Knicks — Anthony had it going offensively tonight. The Hornets would not double-team him and he took full advantage. He scored a season-high 35 points on 14-of-25 from the field. He made three-of-6 from the three-point line and all four of his free throw attempts. He also added 14 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block. Anthony probably could have been credited with a couple more blocks as he used his patented swipe well around the rim.
PG Derrick Rose, Knicks — Rose got it done on both ends of the court tonight. He was tasked with slowing down Kemba Walker and did it relatively well; Walker had only 17 points on the night. Rose scored 16 points with five assists, three rebounds, one steal, and one block. His block was an important one as it came on the last play in regulation.
PF Kristaps Porzingis, Knicks — Porzingis was saddled in with foul trouble but he didn’t let that stop him. He protected the rim well with three blocked shots and countless others that he changed around the basket. He was able to still have an impact without committing fouls, which is not an easy task. He also had 16 points with eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
