The Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks will be playing a Sunday matinee today at Madison Square Garden. The Hawks come into the game with one of the best records in the NBA at 9-3. The Knicks come into the game with a record of 5-7. Tonight is the first of four matchups this season between the two teams.

Both teams head into today’s game coming off a loss. The Hawks had a six-game winning streak snapped on Friday by the Charlotte Hornets. The Knicks saw their modest two-game winning streak end Thursday after a lifeless effort on the road against the Washington Wizards.

This will be a good test for the Knicks on both ends of the court. The Hawks are top-10 in points per game at 106.8 and in points allowed, giving up only 98.3 points per game. The Knicks, on the other hand, are in the bottom half of both categories. They are scoring only 102.3 points per game, ranked 19th, while giving up 107.2 per game, ranked 22nd.

More from New York Knicks

The Knicks will have to figure out a way to keep up with the Hawks as they are stingy as it comes in the NBA in shooting percentages. The Knicks have been a very giving team on defense and will have to tighten that up as the Hawks are extremely efficient. Mike Budenholzer has came over from the San Antonio Spurs and instilled a lot of the same principles with the Hawks.

This is the second matinee of the season for the Knicks, as they hosted the Utah Jazz two weeks ago. That game started off strong for the Knicks, but they faded as the game went on. They will look to avoid the same outcome today against the Hawks.

How can they avoid the same outcome? Check out our slideshow for the keys to the game for a Knicks victory over the Hawks Sunday afternoon.
