The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons face off tonight at Madison Square Garden. It will be the second of four matchups between the teams this season. The Pistons won the first matchup on November 1st, 102-89 in Detroit at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

In that game, the Knicks defense was nonexistent in the first half. The Pistons scored 64 points in the first half to build an early lead. The Knicks were able to tighten things up on that end of the court and get the game closer in the second half. Then their offense disappeared and the Pistons were able to open things up again to finish the fourth quarter as the Knicks didn’t score a point the final 5:39 of the game.

More from New York Knicks

The Knicks were really hurt on the perimeter in the first matchup. The Pistons rank 25th in the NBA in three-point shooting on the season but made 8-of-13 in the first meeting against the Knicks. That cannot happen again as the three-point line is an area the Knicks should win easily against a team such as the Pistons.

It is an adjustment that the Knicks will have to make. The Pistons don’t use a traditional lineup in the sense that they have a small forward and power forward that are essentially interchangeable. It is something that hurts the Knicks, but something they can also exploit.

It is one of the many things to keep an eye out for in the game tonight. Check out or slideshow of the things to watch for when the Knicks and Pistons tip-off tonight from Madison Square Garden at 7:30 PM ET.
