New York Jets fans left MetLife Stadium disappointed as the Los Angeles Rams won a low scoring affair.

51. Final. 6. 30. 9

The New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams set NFL offenses back decades with their performance Sunday afternoon. It was a defensive minded game; partly because of the talent both teams have on that side of the ball but also because both teams offenses are so poor.

The Jets had Bryce Petty making his first career start today and it wasn’t pretty. Petty finished the game 19-for-32 for 163 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He had one good throw to Robbie Anderson up the sideline in the first half for 52 yards. Outside of that throw, Petty was 18-for-31 for 101 yards. Not exactly what Jets fans who clamored for him to start were hoping for.

The touchdown was on a nicely designed play. Petty threw to Brandon Marshall, who lateralled to Bilal Powell. Not the normal way you’d see a player get his first throwing touchdown of his career, but it results in the same amount of points.

More from New York Jets

The interception was backbreaking. Petty threw it as he was trying to lead the team down the field to tie the game or steal a victory. Alec Ogletree wrestled the ball away from Quincy Enunwa as Petty should have thrown the ball closer to the sideline. It wasn’t the first time that Petty misread the defense as he struggled to identify Ogletree a number of times.

It resulted in a disappointing finish to a disappointing afternoon for the Jets. The defense did its job, holding the Rams to only 280 total yards of offense. Todd Gurley found some success in the second half but was quiet otherwise with only 64 yards on 21 carries.

Three Stars

WR Kenny Britt, Rams — In a game that featured almost no offense Britt shined. He has been a revelation for the Rams this season and he picked on Darrelle Revis throughout the afternoon. Britt finished the game with seven receptions on 10 targets for 109 yards.

RB Bilal Powell, Jets — Powell was busy this afternoon as Petty checked down consistently. He was the only person to really get anything going for the Jets on offense. He caught all seven of his targets for 52 yards and one touchdown. He also had four carries for 37 yards.

LB Alec Ogletree, Rams — Ogletree was all over the field for the Rams. He made plays in the running game and passing game, finishing with 10 total tackles. He also had two passes defended to go with the game-sealing interception.
